Italic is an elegant, versatile and valuable script.
This Summer Series is designed to give you a solid foundation in Italic calligraphy.
Learn to write the beautiful of Italic script. Whether you have previous experience
or you’re a beginner, this Italic course is designed to accommodate learners of
all levels.
 
You’ll learn everything from setting up your workspace, maintaining your nibs through to creating beautiful flourishes.
 
Learn to see, a wonderful skill to develop, through that you will learn how to
critique your own work. Gain an understanding of space and its importance in the art of calligraphy. Learn how to practice, to create contrasts in height and weight and how to design dynamic calligraphic artworks.
 
Come join us for 5 days dedicated to creativity.  You'll learn how to become consistent, then fluent with this elegant style.

Italic Intensive program will include:

• Getting started: How to set up your work space.
•  Italic lowercase, instruction letter by letter.
• Establish all letter strokes, form & shape.
• Develop regular spacing: letter and word.
• Introduction to practice techniques.
• How to analyze your writing improve your own work.
• Developing even texture & rhythm.
• Exercises on line quality.
• How to rule accurate line templates.
• Intro to style variations techniques: Letter height and weight contrasts. Compression & expansion.
• Introduction to capitals based on roman letter forms.
• How to apply energy through the addition of swashes and flourishing
• How to use the tools : Inks, gouache, metallic inks, papers, nibs etc
• Applied Skills: Create an Italic artwork with your new skills.
• Research: Developing a future file. How to give yourself a personalised direction through the discovery of the best reference.
  

What will be supplied & things to Bring:

Materials that will be supplied in the studio:

• The use of studio drawing boards.
• Coloured inks, gouaches & many varied tools to experiment with in class.
• Take home - A4 paper, Course Booklet.
• A starter kit, cost $70.
  
• There's a Coffee machine, Teas and snacks.

What Materials to bring:

• Your own calligraphy materials if you have them.
• A list will be supplied or the basic materials to bring each day.
