Italic cursive script

The Italic form is graceful and elegant. As the most popular style used today, this versatile contemporary hand, written with the broad edged pen is a must-have in every calligrapher’s repertoire. This Italic script gives the perfect foundation for brush lettering, pointed pen script and hand writing.

These Courses are designed to give students a solid foundation in the Italic Script. This Italic course will accommodate learners of all levels.
 
You’ll learn everything from setting up your workspace, maintaining your nibs through to creating beautiful flourishes.  You'll learn how to become consistent, then fluent with this elegant style.

Gain an understanding of space and its importance in the art of calligraphy.
Learn how to practice, to create contrasts in height and weight and how to design dynamic calligraphic artworks.  Learn how to critique your own work.

Italic program will include:

• Getting started: How to set up your work space.
•  Italic lowercase, instruction letter by letter.
• Establish all letter strokes, form & shape.
• Develop regular spacing: letter and word.
• Introduction to practice techniques to accelerate skills building.
• Techniques to improve your writing and increase confidence.
• Developing even texture & rhythm.
• How to rule accurate line templates.
• Intro to style variations techniques: Letter height and weight contrasts. Compression & expansion.
• Introduction to capitals based on roman letter forms.
• How to apply energy through the addition of swashes and flourishing
• How to use the tools : Inks, gouache, metallic inks, papers, nibs etc
• Applied Skills: Create an Italic artwork with your new skills.
• Research: Developing a future file. How to give yourself a personalised direction through the discovery of the best reference.

What will be supplied & things to Bring:

Materials that will be supplied in the studio:

• The use of studio drawing boards.
• Coloured inks, gouaches & many varied tools to experiment with in class.
• Take home - Quality A4 paper, Extensive Course Booklet.
  
• A starter kit, cost $70.
• There's a Coffee machine, Teas and snacks.

What Materials to bring:

• Your own calligraphy materials if you have them.
• A list will be supplied or the basic materials to bring each day.
