Choose your pathway to Beautiful Writing.
Whether your goal is to improve your handwriting, explore italic script, or brush lettering, this inspiring 6-week course will provides the foundations to start your calligraphic journey.
 
Beautiful cursive scripts all share a common foundation, italic. During the first two lessons, you'll learn the essential forms of cursive Italic writing using a simple monoline pen. These fundamental letterforms develop the rhythm, spacing, movement and confidence that underpin all forms of cursive writing.
 
Once these foundations are established, you'll choose the writing style and tool that interests you most. This is where things become exciting. Whether you work with a fountain pen, broad-edged pen or brush pen, each tool creates its own distinctive character and style, yet all are built upon the same cursive Italic letterforms.
 
Over the remaining four lessons, you'll develop your chosen pathway with personalised guidance in a small group environment, building both skill and confidence as your writing evolves.
 
This course offers a unique approach to learning beautiful writing by teaching the principles that connect these scripts. Learn one foundation and discover many creative possibilities.
 
Suitable for complete beginners as well as those wishing to refresh and refine their writing skills.

• Developing even texture & rhythm.
  
• How to rule accurate line templates.
  
• Introduction to variation techniques: Height, Weight, Width
  
• Introduction to capitals based on roman letter forms.
  
• How to apply energy through the addition of swashes and flourishing
• How to use the tools: Inks, gouache, metallic inks, papers, nibs etc
  
• Applied Skills: Create an Italic artwork with your new skills.
• Research: Developing a future file. How to give yourself a personalised direction through the discovery of the best reference.

Materials that will be supplied in the studio:

• The use of studio drawing boards.
• Coloured inks, gouaches & many varied tools to experiment with in class.
• Take home - Quality A4 paper, Extensive Course Booklet.
• A starter kit, cost $50.
  
• There's a Coffee machine, Teas and snacks.

What Materials to bring:

• Your own calligraphy materials if you have them.
