Calligraphy Commissions
About Lauchean Duncan
What I Do - I’m a hand-lettering artist, Melbourne calligrapher and long term teacher of calligraphy. I use the 26 letters of the alphabet to create art through design. Using the power of words, playing with the rhythm in their meaning or sound, to create visually engaging artwork.
Bringing an influence of tradition & craft to the table, I am always working on the new, innovative or the unique. With each new project, searching for expression, meaning and new possibilities. Together with my clients input, I explore those possibilities to create beautifully crafted artwork.
The creative work I love to do are commissions, these I call “Word Stories“ and they are all about love and life. Today my bread and butter work consists of all manner of calligraphic inscriptions for special events, weddings and corporate promotions.
With 32 years in the business Lauchean is respected and well known as a highly experienced calligrapher, hand lettering artist and calligraphy teacher. She embraces both the traditions of the craft whilst continuously creating new hybrid styles that embrace contemporary, experimental and expressive genres.
Using the many forms of pen and brush, quill, quality art and handmade papers, or her studio created colour wash papers, custom handmade books, vellum, or transforming letterforms in vector, she is noted for her mastery in the lettering arts.
